With the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), a global agreement has been adopted with concrete and action-oriented goals for a more sustainable development for both people and the planet we live on.

Both as an individual, company and country, we can contribute to the fulfillment of the world goals.

With our company and our pump solutions, we aim to be at the forefront.

Here is Lykkegaard's first ESG report

We are proud to publish the company's first ESG report.

The company is not subject to the EU's ESG reporting requirements, but has chosen to initiate reporting work, as many of the companies we supply pumps to are or will be subject to the requirements.

In addition, it is a relevant and meaningful tool to focus on the decisions and choices we make in the company.

We are looking forward to develop the ESG work in the coming years

  • RESPONSIBLE CONSUMPTION AND PRODUCTION

At Lykkegaard A/S, we manufacture long-lasting pumps with high efficiency, so that both raw materials and energy are saved during the long life of the pumps.

In addition, the pumps are manufactured so that they can be easily disassembled and repaired. We like to repair and recycle - instead of throwing away.

The raw materials for the pumps are carefully selected so that they suit the process and the environment in which the individual pump must be part of. This in turn helps to extend the service life.

    Waste in over 40 fractions

In our production, we make a great effort to phase out the use of dangerous chemicals and to sort waste so that as much as possible can be recycled. We started sorting waste 30 years ago and now do it in 40 fractions from paper and batteries to various metals and chemical waste.

We minimize the consumption of packaging by reusing packaging and using recycled cardboard.

The water in our test facility is recycled and we continuously implement energy-saving measures in our buildings and on our machines. For example, we have achieved significant electricity savings since 2010 through energy management and LED lighting.

We buy refurbed electronics whenever it is possible.

We will continue to work to create even more sustainable production and sustainable products with a long lifespan. Therefore, we will support World Goal 12: Responsible consumption and production with a special focus on efficient use of natural resources, environmentally responsible handling of chemicals and waste, so that emissions to air, water and soil are reduced for the benefit of human health and the environment

reduction, recovery and reuse of waste both internally in production, when delivering our products and services, and in cooperation with companies that receive our waste.

SDG 8 Decent work and economic growth
  • DECENT JOBS AND ECONOMIC GROWTH

Our entire production takes place in Denmark and for many years we have made a great effort to ensure that our employees have the best possible conditions for a good working life both physically and socially. This has resulted in our turnover of employees being very low.

We attach great importance to a good and safe working environment. We do that, among other things by sidekick training, written instructions, emergency plan, systematic inspections and work with near misses, so that accidents are prevented and the safety of work processes is continuously improved.

With technical aids, good working conditions are achieved, which, like high demands for hygiene and order, reduce sickness absence.

We always have between 30 and 40% apprentices, to support the employment and training of local labour.

We will continue to support Global Goal 8 on decent jobs and economic growth with a particular focus on:

    • reducing the proportion of young people who are not in a job or in education,
    • protecting employees' rights and promote a safe and stable working environment for all workers.
  • 99% of Lykkegaard's pumps can be reused or recycled

Did you know that 99% of a pump from Lykkegaard A/S can be reused or recycled? And that we offer to disassemble old pumps and sort the parts so that they can be reused as best as possible? This is how we have always done it - but now it has become modern to relate to reuse and recycling.

In 2022, we bought 38.5 tonnes of steel – and sent 36.5 tonnes for recycling. This is not because we have such a large amount of waste in our production - but rather that 2022 was a year in which we repaired and restored many old pumps and in that context helped the customers with the parts that could no longer be used in the pumps. Some of the new pumps we produced were in HDPE material and others were built from pump parts from stock. So it is not every year that we end up purchasing and recycling almost the same amount of steel.

But the numbers are now interesting anyway.

At Lykkegaard, we have gone through a course in Dansk Industri's project Climate-ready Production Company. We have done this because we receive training in preparing

our CO2 accounts and become aware of how we use resources and which ones we use. It is necessary because several customers demand it in connection with large projects. It also gives us a more detailed knowledge of our own emissions.

Optimizing resource consumption and recycling has always been high in Lykkegaard's value chain – climate accounting or not. For generations, we have produced pumps with the goalog using the least possible power to move exactly the amount of water that the customer demands.

In this content, we have also sorted our waste into as many fractions as we could think of, so that we can recycle it the best possible.  Some pump parts we can reuse directly ourselves, as when we quickly repaired an older drain pump with a pipe part that we had saved from a previous pump. However, it is not often that we are so lucky.

We often take the pumps apart into as small parts as possible and send it for recycling - divided according to the type of metal it is. There is an economic advantage in this, because we simply get more money for the metals we send for recycling if they are as clean as possible. But it also has a great environmental advantage, because it can be recycled exactly as it is – steel, duplex, aluminum or brass.

Lykkegaard's pumps are produced so that they can be taken apart and reused as much as possible. In fact, it is only a rubber bearing that sits as a shaft bearing inside the pump, which cannot be reused directly from pumps that usually weigh several tons.

"It makes good sense for us to know what kind of materials we are working with. And a clear conscience that we know that it can all be separated and reused again. It could

when my grandfather built pumps many decades ago - and we have no reason to change that. Now it has become so modern to be able to say that everything we make can be recycled. So now it's as if the old-fashioned has become modern," observes Karsten Lykkegaard.
